About

The world from a backpacker’s perspective. This travel journal narrates my adventures on the road, whereabouts, plans and activities. Writings on destinations, people, culture, peculiarities, experiences and random ponderings.

MeMy name is James Mostert and I’m originally from The Netherlands, although I like to see myself as a citizen of the world. Given the fact that I was born in December 1982, you should be able to figure out on your own how old I am now. I’ve been travelling on and off since I was 17, and I hope to keep on wandering the world for a long time to come. I’ve started using this online travelog mainly to digitally document my travels, for my own pleasure, and to keep friends & family up-to-date on my whereabouts and activities.

My home base is the capital of The Netherlands: Amsterdam. I currently study Information Sciences at the University of Amsterdam. This usually pretty much fills up most of my time, but whenever I have the chance, you can find me & my backpack on the good old road. Obviously, I love to travel. By now I’ve visited about twenty five countries in four continents, and I hope to get those numbers a lot further up in the future.

I like to: travel, sleep, juggle, dive, hike, cycle, read books (preferably English), watch movies, listen to my music, relax, smoke cigarettes, drink coffee, play guitar (I kind of suck at that though), meet people, write (you can find most of my travel writings on this blog and on my main website - see Travel Writings on the Links page), build websites, marvel at the world’s diversity and at nature’s wonders, …

I’m fluent in Dutch and English, speak basic Spanish but would like to become fluent in it, and I used to understand German - which perhaps with a little practice will come back to memory again. I also know a lot of little sentences in many other languages - mostly fowl language, pick-up lines and how to order beer.

I like to travel light and cheap. My next big trip will be six months of study & travel in Australia, and possibly a bit of Asia too. This will take place in the period of February to August 2006.
