Beer
Most people make it one of their priorities to take in as much of the local cuisine as possible when exploring new countries and continents. And they do this rightfully of course, because food is a big part of every culture.
The same goes for beverages, they’re as much part of culture as food is. Mexico has its pulque, tequila and mezcal. Spain has sangrĂa and tinto de verano. The Philippines have lambanog and tuba. Well, the list of countries and their local drinks is endless…
I find it really hard to decide on what my favourites are, regarding local food & drinks. When it comes to beer though, I ‘m pretty sure that my favourite is not Heineken. Actually, the best beer I’ve come across so far is “the world’s first golden beer”: Pilsner Urquell from the Czech Republic, brewed in Pilsen.
Knowing this, you can probably imagine the look on my face when I received four half litres of Plzensky Prazdroj’s pride as a thank you for an old favour!
