Zihuatenejo
I made it out of Colola, after having seen some amazing turtles crawling the beaches, looking for place to lay their eggs. Very cool sight. When you´re in the middle of nowhere though, nobody has a clue about if there are any buses out of there, and if so, when they´ll come. So if you do want to leave a place like Colola, the only thing you can do is to sit by the side of the road and just wait and wait and hope that a bus shows up. Which, luckily, at last it did
Zihuatenejo, well known from the Shawshank Redemption, is a wonderful place to hang out in. It´s located on the Pacific Coast and is surrounded by green palm-tree-filled hills. Very relaxed city center as well. And it´s a nice change from roughing it at the turtle beaches. When I just got here my nails were black, I hadn´t had a shower in days, salt and sand was everywhere, and I desperately needed a shave…
All that taken care of in the comforts of civilization, I spent the next day exploring the beaches here. Playa Las Gatas can only be reached by boat, and has a small stand where you can rent snorkling equipment. The underwater life over there is quite amazing. Loads of colourful fishes, weird moving sea stars, squids and something that resembled a sea snake but wasn´t quite it. Anyhow, it was absolutely beautiful. I´d forgotten how amazing the world on the other side of the water surface can be. Am very much looking forward to going diving in Belize, which apparently is one of the most beautiful diving spots in the world.
Loving the road, the weather, the tropical coasts, the food, the people, the country. I´ve only been abroad for about 9 days I think, so still have almost 7 weeks to go. Time is crazy, I feel like I´ve been away from Amsterdam for ages… Well, gotta go. Tomorrow I´ll be travelling by overnight bus to Puerto Escondido!
