I bought my ticket

Well, I just booked my flight to Central America! =D Here are the itinerary details:

Departure date: July 5, 2005
Route: Dusseldorf - Paris - Mexico City

Return date: September 1, 2005
Route: Guatemala City - Atlanta - Paris - Dusseldorf

Air carrier: Air France
Total flight distance: approx. 19,283 kilometres (11,982 miles)
Flight costs: approx. 725 Euros (930 US Dollars)

It’s final now, I’m really going and I still can’t really comprehend it as everything still seems a bit far away. Regarding my previous flight plan (see previous post), I found that there were better options to fly. I am now flying into Mexico City and out of Guatemala City, saving me a complete round trip through Central America. I also came to find that Dusseldorf (a German airport close to the Dutch border) is cheaper to fly from than Amsterdam. All in all, I think I got a pretty sweet deal. I wrote down all of my findings of my airline ticket search in a nice little article on buying airline tickets, and I hope these tips can be of some use to other travellers.

The first and largest step has been taken, now it’s a matter of preparing for the rest of the journey: guidebook, inoculations, money matters, travel insurance, leaving everything behind the right way, etcetera, etcetera. Quite an undertaking really. I’ll keep on logging my preparation activities in this weblog.

Greetz! James
